We believe good architecture begins with asking the right questions, before rushing to answer the wrong ones.
Our process is iterative, collaborative, and grounded in hand-drawn thinking and robust digital tools. Working fluidly between sketches, diagrams, and a strong BIM platform to explore ideas, we are committed to resolving & refining designs on paper/ on a virtual model before it goes to the site.
We love design challenges: solving difficult sites, working with tight planning controls, and addressing complex briefs to come up with out-of-the-box, refreshingly unique and resourceful solutions, is something we take pride in.
Read Studio is led by Pulasthi and Ruwani, both graduates of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. After establishing their early careers in renowned Colombo practices, they moved to Sydney in 2009, where they spent over a decade working in leading architectural practices.
In 2022, they founded Read Studio to bring together this depth of experience and a long-held habit of creating, now in a more formalised and considered setting.
We recognize the changing roles of architects and the evolving nature of building types in response to shifting social, environmental, and cultural contexts. Our work explores new models of housing, co-living, adaptive reuse, emerging construction methods and digital tools.
We also believe that good architecture is shaped by more than designers alone. By actively involving sustainability specialists, financial and business advisors, and other non-traditional collaborators from the early stages, to insightfully shape our work.
We are here to build more than just buildings.
We are here to create spaces that flow, communities that thrive and connections that last.
